I read my name somewhere between the posts. Oh, it concerns Death Note being shown in...what? GMA-7? Crime beyond the sanctions of immorality.

*writes Jessica Soho's name in the Death Note, but quickly erases due to her lack of value to the network* I will not resort to hate crimes.

It's just a sick rumor, right, Magdalen? And tapusin mo na yung DN Manga. L is for Loser (to Light). Pero para kay Miss Lei, L is for Love.

Don't worry it's an ugly rumor. DN won't be showing sa GMA 7 for this year.  Animax is slated to show it around May or June.

I really liked Midori no Hibi, manga and anime. And one time, pinagtiyagaan kong panoorin sa Animax. Another life-changing mistake. lol My mind will not be able to take Animax-dubbed DN.

Guilty pleasure local TV series: "Sana Maulit Muli"

When everyone is watching the same thing, you just can't help but get curious about it.

Miss Lei, the movies are not faithful to the manga, especially DN2. I suggest reading the manga after or, for better understanding, before watching the movie. :D

Erika Toda, who played Amane Misa is the love. Pinanindigan mo talaga si L, Miss Lei. hehe

DeathNote: Si Light kasi ang bida. masyadong dumadami fans ni L kaya sya tinigok.

God? Save Our King: ganda din nito Hahahah.

After watching a few episodes of Asian Treasures, I could say that it is intersetingly educational - this is good for the masses to learn a few things about the country's history (if they give attention to the details of the story). I think Robin Padilla's comedy is good. I still hate Angel Locsin's acting. It's like watching Lord of the Rings and skipping the parts of Frodo and Sam. I wish it was called a diferent thing beside "Asian Treasure". oh well...that's just my opinion.

Wise decision.

But there are a few bright spots that exist.

About, Midori no Hibi...hindi talaga pang-bata yung series.

Super Twins, Exposed
By: Papa Bear - Martes - 30 Enero 2007 - 12:51 PM

I really don't think that Super Twins is a Sailormoon rip-off since that kind of costume is a common school uniform among Japanese teenagers.

If that is the case, then all schools in Japan ripped-off the Sailormoon anime.

Jepoy, at 12/31/2006 07:09:00 PM said:
do you think the long white gloves, big ribbons, and tiara are common japanese school uniforms? Sailor Moon costumes may look like school uniforms but they're really not the common design of school uniforms in japan. My mom lives near a high school in Japan and I tell you, those Sailor Moon costumes are not the common design.

If you look closely, Super Twins and Sailor Moon costumes are almost exact copies, from big exaggerated ribbons, boots, tiaras, and designs. That's a total rip-off. Instead of projecting new character images, viewers will remember Super Twins as two girls wearing Sailor Moon costume knock-offs.

This coming from Carlo Pagulayan's DA Account http://guisadong-gulay.deviantart.com/journal/11394571/#comments
posted Jan11, 2007

ok a year ago I signed up anonymously at the GMA boards. I decided to go by the name tangangbarbel. Anonymously because i don't want to be branded with "porke't ganito, akala mo na kung sinong magaling". I've seen those remarks too often against those that gave criticisms locally... and besides everybody else was anonymous.

The conversations on that board were really heated but at some point hilarious... The thread was long ago deleted but I managed to save a few of those pages.

Here is one of my conversations, that I think sums what I had wanted to convince them with. i change the name of the other poster, pero kung kasama kayo sa usapan na yun dati, malamang kilala niyo na rin sya. there was an artist there who posted a digi painting of Superman holding a battered CB by the neck with the words "you're nothing but a second CAT trying RATE CopyHARD" <IMG SRC=" title="rofl" width="29" height="27" />

anyway, here's to the last day of CB hehehhe:

CB
hmmm sounds u know abt graphics etc...can u share something instead of judging their works.

me
Oooooh, No way. and besides do I really need to show My works to prove that I have an eye for detail and to know that perfection takes time? How about I'm comparing the whole production turnaround to Production from the states?

CB
U did'nt get my point...u r comparing ur knowledge abt it without realizing a lot of factors like...technology, budget, experienced etc. If u can't accept the fact that we are behind the technology world and we still trying to prove something then I guess u really don't understand. Philippines po ito hindi States and that's the difference.

me
2nd, Hire the right people!, what is Zapata still doing there??? he has already ruined Darna, and now Barbell? Galit ba sya ka Mars Ravelo?

CB
I guess if he indeed ruined Darna executives from gma do u think will still trust him? C'mon business ang teledrama kung tanga ang executives kukunin nila ang director or staff na nagpalubog sa show para walang advertisement (bcoz of the ratings) then walang pera...pero common sense naman kung alam mo ang patakaran ng business hindi ka gagawa ng isang bagay na ikalulugi mo...Ang tanong...bakit madaming advertisement ang Darna...kasi nga po nag ra-rate..maraming viewers..maraming may gusto..period!

ruined what?? hehehe I guess ur not aware of the ratings pity of you.

me
Ruined Darna... the whole concept... yung ibang characters ginaya pa sa X-men movies. the only thing(s) that let it stay on air could be mamaries. Sorry couldn't help it. But seriously It was not a good show. Special Effects wise and story. And Crap who cares about the ratings kung ganito rin lang... nakakatanga ng palabas ang nagbibigay ng ratings sa mga fanasy na palabas ng GMA or ABS.

CB
now u make sense at last u included abs....again, walang perfect ang labanan lang dito ay kung sino at ano ang tatangkilikin ng viewers it's just happened to be shows from gma.
(honestly I couldn’t remember what my idea was in my last statement. I can’t even understand what I wrote there, but she says that I made sense… go figure. I think I was trying to point that if people praise you too much, you end up a spoiled brat)

me
I guess YOU didn't get my point, I wasn't talking about technology, I was talking about TURNAROUND; that's only one factor I mentioned. So far with technology WE FILIPINOS CAN, we already have all CG apps we need. I was POINTING OUT that perfection takes time. FX shows in the states have a production turnaround of more than a week per episode, and seasons only last half a year each in total; roughly 26 episodes a year.

Have you seen local commercials lately? They have Special FX a lot better than Philippine Fantaseryes. Why?, because they sure didn't make those effects in one day. There are 3d or Composite Artists that are Filipinos and have been even hired by ILM and their partner PIXAR. I am sure GMA has maybe equivalent talents, but they can't do their full potential with a one day Turnaround. Same with writers, do you think they'll come up with something very original with a one week sched and not copy Smallville? You have so much faith with your beloved station so I figure you'll answer "yes".

Did you know that Sega has a partner company here who does 3d graphics for games? And we all know how good graphics quality and standards have increased. Hell processing power has exponentially increased. So technology is no longer a factor, unless your doing a movie equivalent of LOTR. Do you see my point?

Budget? GMA made a press release they could shell out $50,000 for a costume. Nearly as much as the current superman costume and the spiderman costume and take note; that price tag is FOR A MOVIE!
[link] << superman discussion>>

excerpt:
Quote:

Question: How much does a suit like this cost?

Bronson: Well, we don't really have the exact figure, but every time the stunt department wants to cut into one, I say it's like putting a Carrera right off of a cliff.

Question: The Spider-Man suits cost like $50,000 or $80,000 each

Bronson: Oh yeah, we're there.

If GMA could spend that much, how could budget be a factor in local production quality? That's why I left that out because, granting without accepting, GMA said they spent that much for the costume

Dominic Zapata helming the project could be because GMA is still honoring a contract they all signed. Or maybe what the others here have speculated, albeit negatively, are true. You're right who knows. But the Fact remains, he plagiarized a show... some of your Kapuso brethren are even in agreement.

I am not saying any of this because I hate GMA and taking sides. I am saying we could do SO MUCH better and, to boot, not loosing respect for the original material. I am saying that GMA, if not Zapata and writers, is risking a Legal Battle with the Largest Media Conglomerate in the world; TIME WARNER. I am saying I have faith with us Filipinos, And yes I am a Filipino, Pinoy na pinoy po and that's why I'm so concerned about quality para matanggal na ang tag sa atin na manggagaya.

and quoting “another critic in the boards”:
Does it make you Proud to be Filipino now that the Writer of Captain barbell has once again proven what the world already knows-

That you guys locally are the World's Greatest Imitators and Pirates.

CB
I'll be waiting for that lawsuit..if that will happen I will bow down to you but if not I guess learn to accept failures and learn to love ur own...

me
So you admit the show’s a failure then. Point taken.

--------------

Sorry for the long read. hehehe...If the law suit in that tabloid article does push through, then that person would have to eat his words. *eagerly awaits what happens next*

Mello: Actually, i've read all the manga. :p And i've read the summary of the movies (spoilers be damned) but haven't seen it yet. :( Saw first episode of the anime too.

Syeri: Nice post, but is it ok to put his name here? Maybe CP wants to remain anonymous? Anyway, great read, thanks for sharing. About the lawsuit, as much as I want to see them get what they deserve, I feel sad because they won't be the only ones incriminated in this 'crime'. GMA won't be the only ones dubbed as 'imitators' but the whole philippine nation as well. Now that's a lot of bad publicity for the filipino tv and movie industry. :(

The costumes are clearly imitated from the popular Japanese anime. Everyone who knows Sailormoon will agree. Denying that fact makes GMA-7 more detestable. School uniforms of Japanese high schools do look like that, but never with tiaras and large ribbons.

@Miss Syeri: About CB, I think I've seen that before. But what I saw was acting-wise and production-wise better. It wasn't shown in a daily basis, but it was successful. Smallville, I think it was called.

I agree that we are capable of world-class 'fantaseryes'. But having it on a daily basis will degrade its quality. Preparation should be the key. And stations should be happier that it won't be shown daily to save themselves the hassle of day-to-day production costs.

@Miss Lei: Disappointing ending for the manga? :D

Well, this was already in the forums, so readers would read it there, plus i got this posted in Carlo's DA to be read by others, so a few more people would be OK. hehehe

If they do get sued or if they do see that they are already being labled as imitators, then that SHOULD challenge directors, writers, producers to create NEW ideas / concepts for their shows.

This day marks the first time I ever watched Asian Treasures. I have one question: "Ganun ba talaga umarte si Angel Locsin?" It was everything but pleasant.

@Miss Lei: Maybe you should. Marami na yata ang nahook sa DN. Much publicity credited to the movies. The manga was around 2 years back pa ata.

Yah! Blag! Pok! Ack! Grarr! Tsug! Pak!  - Angel Locsin (Darna)
Yah! Blag! Pok! Ack! Grarr! Tsug! Pak!  - Angel Locsin (Asian Treasure)

How am I supposed to feel? Philippine TV caters almost mostly to the masses, who appreciate slapstick comedy over wit, random brawling over well-choreographed duels. Let's not forget the neverending war between the "Good" poor and the "Evil" rich set in an environment where there is no such thing as middle class.

So, when is Pinoy TV going to rise from this mediocrity? Can it, with all the millions who enjoy such simplicity?

*switches TV on and watches House MD*

Well, if you search and choose the ones you watch...of course all the dramas rule out. There are still a very few shows that are good to watch: Digital Tour, Y-speak of studio 23; Ang Pinaka, ka-toque(if you are into cooking) of QTV 11; Totoo TV of ABC 5; uhm...GMA's documentarties and other shows like Pinoy meets world / 100% Pinoy and comedy shows like  Nuts Entertainment  and Bubble Gang. ABS-CBN...uhm...well there should be some good shows there. The choices for our market may not be that many, but there are still a few.

Yun lang siguro. Our choices are not that many.

Y-Speak. Although some of the audience are idiotic. Then again it's freedom of idiocy, I mean, speech. You just have to learn to respect their opinion, for them to respect yours.

Their topic for this month is love. Why this month? What's with February? I don't give away flowers on the 14th. It would be nicer to receive chocolates on that day. Then give back flowers on White Day. I wish I were in Japan...
