Hay, Thank God for DVD's and PC with Internet
Agree! Agree! They murdered Samurai X!!!
Ang weird lang ng ABC 5 ngayon! They took those foreign shows (Ripley's, Guiness, Extreme Makeover, etc.) and placed local hosts to make it their own, and even dubbed the shows in Filipino. What's with that?! The show's were great on their own. Why change it?
I did like Totoo TV. Aliw pa rin si Maverick and Ariel. I don't get to watch it that often though.
psycho: that was very very informative. at least wala sa viewer ang problema, or was it? be.

Yes and No.
Honestly, this is a tough question to answer. You have to take into consideration that the 70-80% of our countrymen who fall below the poverty line will, understandably, have shallower tastes. (I'm not trying to put anybody down, mind you; I'm just stating it as it is.) For this crowd, a few song and dance numbers is enough for them. And whether anybody here likes to admit it or not, 70-80% is a majority.
Still... there is evidence that the masses can be educated, albiet slowly. For proof, I invite you to look back at all the local soap operas and teleseryes (sosyal na soap) we've had through the years. The storytelling, the technicals, everything has improved. I can point to the influence of foreign shows here (Mexicanovelas and Koreanovelas, to be precise), but the fact remains that the local stuff has improved immensely, and the masa is loving it anyway.
So yes, when we think about it, there is hope for local TV. Get ready to fight for it, though.
Tama nga naman, there's hope for local TV. Sana nga lang mabago ang mindset ng mga manonood, and probably mga gumagawa ng shows, na sumubok ng ibang formula.
Enough of the time-tested money-rakers (maluhaang teleseryes, fantaseryes that clearly copied foreign greats).
maganda rin yung UNTV before. i liked watching strangebrew (before naging sikat si tado) and eat my shorts. ngayon wala na yung mga shows na yan. sigh. sayang...

Strangebrew? Seriously? Each to her own, I guess...
Pero that's the problem, right there. As much as some factions would love to experiment with formats and such, they are always, always, overwhelmed by the demands of conservative advertisers and a masa audience who will not support anything out of the norm. Or simply put, it's all about the money.
And this is the field I chose to work in. I must really be nuts.
TV shows only live when there is enough funds to support it. And who gives the funds? Commercials whose only main aim is to entice people who watches the shows to buy their products. The more commercials a show has, the bigger the funds that they get and the more it lives on.
For example: Pangako sa iyo - It had at a record according to a friend who works there in its 30 min ep a minimum of 20-25 different commercial. Esp. when Amor Powers was introduced.
Mulawin - who during a dare we checked if the full 30 min ep was given and found out that the show lasted for 18 min only. It was chock full of commercials.
Same with famous anime shows namely : Yu yu hakusho and Dragon Ball Z.
They (TV people) give the masa crowd (people from c-d demographs) the tried and tested shows because it generates more income for them so that they could give more jobs to other people. It's a cycle. It's the same in the States, shows die a natural death when the Network people see that nobody watches it, and they couldn't generate any commercial sales.

Television is one of the hardest job ever. It's true that shows are aired when they generate money. I guess it would be fair to tell that when a show (no matter how beautiful it is) is a no-show =), then it should be replaced. You can't blame anybody for this one. Maybe the viewers just got tired watching.
For my own subjective reaction (own na, subjective pa), I hate how a certain television channel uses its talents. They use their talents to the fullest (as in you can see them 7 days a week) and then after that, that talent loses his/her job if he/she doesn't click anymore. I guess their karma last year (or two years ago) is all worth it.

Tell me about it... Pag nakakapag-catalog ka ng tapes na puro mukha ni Eddie Gil or Robin Padilla or merong (gasp) love scene ni Vina Morales at Ian Veneracion, mapapaisip ka kung anong nangyari sa industriya natin.

ya..it's like what they did with GOKUSEN live. They cut 1 whole episode to be shown for a 3-5 days? Then fill up the time with commercials. I see that GMA has new episodes of One Piece, they have BLEACH and They'll be showing GTO live action.
Because canned foreign shows are cheaper for GMA in the long run. They don't lose money, and the shows were certified winners before. In the case of QTV, since they're building a brand, it's more crucial for them to show new shows. But don't forget, QTV shows a lot of old canned stuff as well.

Because those anime still generates funds for them. According to a survey made, Yu Yu Hakusho generates at least 5-8 commercials per commercial breaks compared to other anime.

Then again, cable sila... and then may problema ang dubbing ng GMA.
MY GOSH!!!!! DID YOU HEAR??! DID YOU HEAR???!!! (hehe..i didn't, but i wish i did.)
When Dominic Z., infamous director of Mulawin, was interviewed in Unang Hirit last week about his latest project Super Twins he said something like he had to come up with something new for the poor (uhm...i know he meant masses..i guess he just forgot the word.) And that he said that it was really his intention to make Super Twins "campy" ( adj. Having deliberately artificial, vulgar, banal, or affectedly humorous qualities or style: played up the silliness of their roles for camp effect. ).
So Super twins is about 2 little girls that transforms into adult superheroes. Sounds like the Anime Fancy Lala to me.
oh yeah...we watched Agent X44. Vhong Navarro would really fit the role of Lupin, far better than Richard Gutierrez. Not a bad movie. It has a story and di siya bitin.
mam syeri: ahhh yun pala ibig niyang sabihin. from the start, pangit na talaga yung palabas para lang sa masses. o guys, paano ba yan, di pala para sa atin yung super twins.
also watched the agent x44. mala austin power minus the green jokes and far better. bagay na bagay kay hopia (yun ba yung name nung partner ni vhong) yung role niya. maganda siyang panoorin promise.
Ung Lupin ng GMA is a separate entity kay Lupin III (anime). Ang balak ata nila eh to remake Lupin..with Pinoy Flava....Ndi franchise ng Lupin III ung ipapalabas nila..
Super Twins..costume looks like Sailormoon...but the story? ewan parang iba eh. ndi ko type..(although maganda talaga si nadine)
I'm a bit skeptical about Death Note....maxadong brutal para ipalabas ng siyete..(pero maganda yun!)
oh come on! pati ba naman death note? what's next? shingetsutan tsukihime? please naman!argghh! their names should be written in the death note for this...(okay...exxagg)
