In other words, EEE whta you're trying to point out is that it doesn't matter how old a taxi is unless its well-maintained.
Unfortunately, for many operators, its cheaper to re-fleet than to keep their 1990s Corolas, Sentras and Prides which tend to wear out easily. They may have the money but extra downtime in the shop would mean lost revenue.
Hyundai and Kia compact sedans are now replacing those 1990s cars in taxi fleets alongside Toyota Vioses and Avanzas. Unfortunately, they are just as durable as those Kia prides. Riding home last Wednesday, the cabbie whose mount was a brand new Kia ranted about how he had problems with oe of the cab's doors after his kids played around with them

At least if they could give back some of the money we spent di ba? Un lang sa akin. :D
Actually, its the driver who wants less downtime for the cab. The longer duration he is on the road, the greater the window for revenue and for him, the more trips the better:

The problem with Buses, Trikes, Taxis and Jeepneys drivers, are that they are compensated by the excess of the boundary they have to pay the operator. This makes them very aggressive in trying to fish for as many passengers as possible to make ends meet.

Un pera na nakukuha ng taxi operators, sa dami dami ba naman ng pasahero, they could at least give back to the customers (passengers) kahit unti lang sa pag alaga ng sasakyan sa taxi fleets nila, or sa pagpapanatili ng maayos na mga tauhan sa taxis nila or whatever. Taas ng boundaries nila, then all we get in return is battered up Kira Prides and sometimes unscrupulous drivers? Wag na lang po, mag MRT or LRT na lang po ako. Customer service indeed!
They (taxi operators) keep saying lost revenue this, lost revenue that. Dapat kung sa tingin nila la sila ginagawa masama eh they must know what's going on sa drivers nila. Ung pag kumpuni ng sasakyan siguro., pwede maayos lang yan only up to a certain point. Pag panget na talaga, it's time to get a new fleet of cars.
do you chat with taxi drivers? in lieu of calling cards, they now insist on giving out their mobile numbers (not the company's) so that you can directly contact them if & when you need their services.

Some taxis have been known to give out free discount cards of motels. Fares to and from Pasay, Pasig and parts of Anitpolo and San Juan are very lucrative thanks to those seedy establishments

Pag makwento un taxi driver, napapakwento din ako with them. :) dun ko nalaman ung kasamaan ng work nila, 24 hour shifts my gosh...X_____x;; me nag offer minsan ng services nya, I just declined, I really can't afford taxis na basta basta lang papaasahin ko lang ung driver.
@ polskie
Ay tunay nga yan.
@ s2chard
Here would hopefully be the Jeepney's or those Kamikaze buses' replacement
E-jeeps receive orange plates from LTO
By Abigail Kwok INQUIRER.net First Posted 15:47:00 07/31/2008
MANILA, Philippines -- Electric-powered jeepneys have been officially recognized as a mode of public transport after the Land Transportation Office issued orange license plates designating them low speed vehicles (LSVs).
Three e-jeepneys, which have begun servicing the route between Makati Citys Salcedo and Legaspi villages, are the first vehicles to be classified LSVs.
Once their franchises are approved by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), they will be issued yellow license plates with orange stickers.
On Thursday, Green Renewable Independent Power Producer (GRIPP) chairperson Athena Ballesteros said another e-jeepney will be plying the Ikot route at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
The registration of the e-jeepneys is much-awaited and smoothens the way for the full implementation of the Climate Friendly Cities Project, particularly when we start scaling up e-jeepney fleets around the country, Ballesteros said.
E-jeeps are the answer to the problem of global climate change and worsening air pollution are a result of really bad environmental decisions made in the pastspiraling diesel and gasoline prices prove that fossil fuels are not the energy choices for the future, Greenpeace executive director Von Hernandez, said.
lagi kong kakwen2han si "manong".. madalas kasi ako sa taxi, plus lagi kaming umuuwi from gimik ng hating gabi - umaga. multi purpose. i also advice you guys to talk to them. heres why i see it:
2. you can do the freud. see if alam nya talaga ung daan. if what he says fits to what you know. bingo, mabait si manong at di nya nanaising lumipad ang bill.
3. you'll keep him AWAKE! nakasakay na ko sa 90% tulog na driver..grabe..katakot..its 1am pa naman. i treat him to 711 for some cofee
@s2chard:
i give 20-50 pesos tip lalo na mabait si manong. its not abt spoiling them. pero i just want them to know na ang gaya nilang mabait, patas at maalaga ay apreciated ng mga commuters. it pays more to be kind. pero pag garapal na driver, ung tipong ililigaw ka, kahit 2pesos hihingin ko sukli! irereport ko pa minsan sa company. i always use the "Video" application of my phone.
If they refuse to do what you want in in insisting way, bad si manung. I usually give them allowance of 20 to 50 pesos din pag sumasakay ako taxi kasi nga sa hirap ng trabaho nila. I haven't actually tried taking taxis pag medyo alanganin oras na, I still try to ride the jeep or FX, kasi me weird na nangyayari din sa mga taxi pag ganung mga oras.
Anu kaya reaksyon nila?
Teka s2chard anu name ng bus line? Parang familiar eh. Yellow na me green designs ba ung bus?
is it Makati trans sumthing? mukhang schoolbus sa amerika?MALTC yata. yung tipong mag t transform dahil sa laki.
hey triple E, youre a girl, manong tell L tales even to you guys?wow.. natakot cguro ako nun if it were me.
well. in my case, depende, may funny naman kcng greenjokes, may nakakasuka. depende sa pag ddliver.
my longest ride to adamson from dangwa is 1.5hrs!! wala pang 5km un!buti pa nag roller blades nalang ako.
I will gladly pay the driver and additiona 25% of the metered fare can outpace and outmaneuver semitrailers on EDSA in te wee hours of the morning and give Tyson Sy and Fernando Alonso a run for their money

i've had my share of over-friendly taxi drivers. that's why i only take a cab if it really can't be helped because we don't know who or what kind we'll get. i get paranoid with every ride.
i've learned to be just polite enough when they engage me in conversation, but not encourage them to chat nor read something else beyond friendly talk. i avoid cabs when i'm wearing a skirt; ugh.. a certain episode still gives me shivers. if it's an ungodly hour, i use my mobile to call & talk to a friend (once, with an imaginary person on the other line) making sure the driver hears me giving out his plate number & car description to that friend. or if a friend's seeing you off, let her take down that info, making sure the driver sees her doing that.
but i once paid a driver almost 300% of the actual fare. it was raining & my destination was somewhere in u-belt. he was the only one who stopped and drove me to an event, even carried my huge luggage without any prompting.

That is the sort of story you'd normally read on adults only forums, men's mags or anonymous columns on tabloids
When it comes to the preferences of drivers for what is running on their audio systems, jeep and bus drivers seem to prefer irritaining radio stations like Love Radio. Cabbies prefer news and current affairs programs on AM stations like DZMM and DZBB and oldies tunes on Sundays.
To see what was the fastest and cheapest ways getting around here in Metro Manila, Inquirer. net staged a 3-day race between teams taking a jeeps, cars, buses, taxis and commuter trains along key roads. The team who took the MRT(Day1, EDSA Race), LRT2 (Day 2, Aurora blvd/Recto Race) and LRT (Day 3, Taft Ave race) won and spent the least. The team who took the jeep and buses finished dead last on all 3 days.

Ay minsan sa taxis ganun din sa weekdays, minsan they listen to AM radio din. Or kung me radio ung cab para makapag communicate sa ibang driver sa taxi fleet na kasama sya, un lang ung maririnig mo.
@EE: about sa mga kundoktor na nakasabit sa likod eh may mga gnun na talaga sa iba...minsan sa ibang terminal e may ticket kang bibilin to ensure your place ayun.
and about the MRT thinggy it can happen most of the time kapag rush hour...mostly 6-8 am/pm where almost every commuter either going or coming home at the same time...
ToT tunay yan pag rush hour kaya I try either going home before the rush hour or let the rush hour pass first bago ako mag attempt mag MRT...
Oo nga roachy, ganun sa ibang terminal babayaran mo ung nakatayo na isang mama or babae dun bago ka makasakay ng jeep. Ganun din sa mga shuttle na papuntang Ortigas or Makato eh, hehehehe. Anung route na iba pa ung me nakasabit na konduktor sa likod? @.@;;
