I like music a lot. I can't play instruments, read notes or chords, or sing over the range of a bass. I used to frequently listen to radio stations for my share of music, but lately it's becoming more and more redundant. Sure, I may like The Calling a lot, but hearing them play "Wherever You Will Go" almost every hour of the day can really be annoying. Okay, well maybe they don't, but even if they play "Stigmatized" or "For You" in its place I'd still be irritated with same band being played over and over again. So what else is there to do? Music-hunting.
What I do is check the net for some locally unknown bands/artists and check out their playlist. Before I check them out via Yahoo! Launch Cast and Yahoo! Radio with their genre radio portals. Then when a good song comes out I take notes on the details such as the title and the band and check out their songs in Purevolume, Trig, on their official website and check out their other songs. That way my playlist won't just be stuck at what's in the local airwaves.
There is one local station though that I also depend on for some hidden gems. NU107 has a growing playlist. I don't listen much to them anymore since their frequency is hard to receive, but I remember before that they introduce a handful of songs every week. One time when they introduced Anberlin's "Paperthin Hymn" I was so hooked up into that one song it made me buy their album online... well, that and because I had an opportunity to try out my mom's e-card. I introduced the song and its music video to the GWAPOs, and Yakabot liked it so much that he introduced it to his friends at UP Manila. Suddenly, the "Paperthin Hymn" had a following in his school. Talk about some free publicity!
So in this way I'd like to share the hidden gems I discovered to you guys. Of course, I'll just be sharing the details such as song title, band, and the availability of a music video in any video streaming sites like the ever-so-popular Youtube. I think that you guys also have encountered some notable songs that are unheard of in the local airwaves, so I hope that you can share as well. Of course, let's try to make things legal and not post links or sources for anything that breaches copyright. ^_^

Well since I'm doing this post at 10 in the evening and I'm feeling a bit tired, I'm gonna give a quickie post on one band and put in three of their songs.
Band: H.I.M. Song: Wings Of A Butterfly Video: Youtube
Song: Join Me In Death Video: Youtube (2 variations)
Song: Killing Loneliness Video: Youtube
H.I.M. is a goth-rock band, obvious in their composition. Some may get a feel of The Rasmus in them, as I myself thought of them as an "older Rasmus". Coincidentally, they're both from Finland and have collaborated on one song entitled "Apocalyptica", which also has a video on Youtube.

We had a school project where we had to compose our own song for the school and make a music video for it. Our production team won a bunch of awards for the music and the video.
Okay so my next post will be on the topic now ^_^

Band: Nevertheless Song: The Real Music Video: Youtube
Somehow gives a feel-good vibe on me when I listen to it. I like how they employ the light-trail effect on the video, though it's just a small detail.
Band: God or Julie Song: Say Your Last Goodbye Music Video: Youtube
I found the video's plot interesting towards the latter half.
Band: Falling Up Song: Escalates Video: Youtube
I felt that this one's music video's pacing is slow. I'm putting this on for the song itself.
Band: Madina Lake Song: One Last Kiss Music Video: Youtube
Those mentioned above can be found in Purevolume, though I first heard Falling Up's "Escalates" in Yahoo! Messenger's Radio in the Christian Rock genre and Madina Lake's "One Last Kiss" is something I found after checking out their "House of Cards" music video from the featured list of Purevolume.
I hope other people can share some if they have some finds.

I woke up early today checking things out at Purevolume. Checking out one feature I incidentally bumped into Tooth & Nail Records again. If you're not familiar with them, they're the recording company for the bands Anberlin, Emery, and, prolly the most known of them, Thousand Foot Krutch. Here're some finds from them.
Band: Further Seems Forever Song: Light Up Ahead Music Video: Youtube
Band: Emery Song: Studying Politics Music Video: Youtube
Band: Anberlin Song: Paperthin Hymn Music Video: Youtube
Some probably have already heard this one in NU, but for those who don't know or haven't seen the video of "Paperthin Hymn", I recommend you check it out. The plot seems simple in the beginning but the twist at the end of it is something considering the build-up it made in the start.

di ko type ung ep album nila h..i like the hurricane version n pnplay sa NU17 before...nkasama a sa top10 un eh..kasama ung paris ng chicosci na 1 yr sa countdown hehe
Try musiklokal.com Julius, there are plenty of local artist there, unsigned and signed, also they have there some indie labeling companies or some music establishments.. Its somehow similar to purevolume..
Im also involved in the indie industry, unfortunately, my band dont have enough time and resource to produce an album or even an EP..
lolw00t?! Girl drummer?! I haven't seen that one! Better check it out.
If I remember it right, A Perfect Circle's bassist is a woman.I saw their music video for "Judith". After the first chorus in the video when she paused she tied her hair for a few seconds just before she got right back in. Then I thought, "Kewl..."

Sorry for being out of this thread for days. Schoolwork's been a killer these past days that I can only make short posts like on the game threads. And I haven't had much chance on hunting for new songs since my bandwidth's been concentrated on my major priority downloads. So I guess I'll just share some of my old finds.
Band: Red Song: Already Over Music Video: Unconfirmed
Band: Trading Yesterday Song: One Day Music Video: Unconfirmed
This one was actually part of the former K-Lite's playlist, which actually had a following since their sound is likened to that of Vertical Horizon. Their single was part of the movie "Stealth" soundtrack.
Band: Leeland Song: Sound of Melodies Music Video: Youtube
A rock band with a praise song. But not your typical kind of praise song. This one actually caught my interest that made me check out the Christian Rock channel on Yahoo! Messenger's Radio
Band: Bump of Chicken Song: Karma Music Video: Youtube
This one is a J-Rock band, which you probably heard of before. One of their song, "Sailing Day" was part of an anime's OST, which was prolly "One Piece". This one I heard on Guitar Freaks, the guitar arcade game similar to Drum Mania but different in instrument (obviously).
Band: Sambomaster Song: Sekai Wa Sore Wo Ai To Yobundaze Music Video: Youtube
Ending theme for "Densha Otoko" TV series. If you're a Japan-nerd/otaku who haven't seen this and/or haven't heard the song, you're missing out on a great show and single. Also part of the Guitar Freaks roster.
The latter two are in Japanese. But in my personal opinion a large population of Filipinos are able to appreciate Japanese songs without knowing what they mean.
