And that makes it more painful for me to stomach the present situation. Pinoys are one of the most creative and artistic people in the world, and here we are, not able to enjoy or indulge in our art because we can't afford to. If I had a peso for every person who decided to trade in his paintbrush, his pen, his camera, his guitar to work in some godamn call center, I'd be a f*cking rich person.
It's unfair!
I swear to God I will do everything in my power to change this trend. And I will start next month. Wait for it.

PS: Oh wow, 1000 posts.
i do agree! most Pinoys are creative by nature in all forms of art but they're being hindered by norms which prevent most aspiring pinoy artist not to express themselves. But unfortunately, they're not given the chance. i think 'cause most of the publishers don't support the of ideas these aspiring artists... as i've read in bob ong's book Stainless longganisa", most publisher's are not open to new kinds of idea, so it limit's the standard genre of the books being published... unlike those of the other countries where people can freely express themselves and they can publish their books whether it's interesting or not... (i'm not sure if it's also applicable in the comic industry.) the worst thing is, thegovernment won't even support those artist... if only the goverment would support them, then i think the industry (books and comics) will grow...

1. why are we still in the mindset that artists need publishers to express their ideas? the web gives you a global audience for minimal risk and capital.
2. why do we need the government to support the artist? what happens if the artist creates a work subversive to government policies (as great art will sometimes do)? will the government pull back its support?
no more further questions your honor... just stating what i've read... i really don't have that much idea about the industry anyway... i stand corrected...

well, that's true... pero what about those aspiring artists who really want to be in the industry but they don't have the resources... who would help them? not all people can afford to make copies of their work.. that's why some (if not most) of them is trying to seek some help... (wala lang opinion lang)

I guess that's why we are here. It's good that there are groups like the Artists' Den. We can't help them in full scale publishing, but we do offer help in a little exposure for their work. Little steps go a long way.
I've just finished reading Ang Mundo ni Andong Agimat. It totally Rocks!!
I agree with Ms. syeri. Furthermore... hindi pinapansin ng gobyerno natin and comic book industry natin... kung yung mga nakaimbento nga ng water engine tinabla, comic book artists and writers pa kaya?
@syeri: actually, i've heard of the artist den... but i'm just not familiar with what it is or what they do... can you please enlighten me... just curious...

Well, Ariel Atienza is one of the founders of the Artists' Den. The group was formed to be a support group for artists - not just comic artists but theatre artists, musicians, movie makers etc. When i joined the group most of the members were comic artists. I guess that's why activities are now more geared to comics. But the mailing list is open to different types of artists. our only problem in the group now is that we lack participation from the members in the mailing list. most of the active members before are all busy with work.
@ms. syeri: can everybody join the artist's den as long as he or she's any one of those you mentioned? Example: Song writer po ako so can I join the Den?

i just have a question, i'm not sure if it's off topic not or but if it is, i do apologize... just want to ask, why is ms syeri's carpool comic books in powerbooks megamall all dilapidated? and there's not even a copy that's still looks good... i was planning to buy one but i've seen that thay're all open and not even a copy covered in plastic like the others... and the leaves are falling off... and they just have few copies of the book... **sigh**

Ya, magaling yung artist ng Trese. If my memory is correct, the artist has another indie entitled NWA. aliw yun! too bad he hasn't been able to continue that series.
i have a question for ms syeri and mr L... i'm just curious, where do you get ideas for your strips? don't you run out of ideas? and do you experience mental blocks? i've just remember these questions when i've read P Medina's Pugad Baboy... he said that he gets his ideas by just looking around... and you just need to be observant... do you share the same opinion? i'm just curious... coz i was a frustrated comic artist when i was younger...
