I PWNED my Supervisor.

I came to work early this morning and checked my new roster for this cycle. I was shocked to see that I was working 8 days straight (I'm still working the last 2 days of the current roster and I got 6 days on the next.)

It's not that I panicked or anything, but I was a bit pissed. I immediately sought out other bartenders/****tails server who might be interested in taking away one of my shifts. I wanted at least to take the monday off because it's the first day of the next roster and I start at 7:00. And I finish work at 20:30 the day before that. (It takes me 2 hours to get to the casino and 2 hoursto get home)

So there I was at the bar, minding my customers when suddenly my ****head supervisor comes up to me and tells me he's going to have me sign something. After he left to get the papers, I asked Michael, my co-worker what that paper was for. He told me:

"So you're working more than seven days straight, huh? And only now they're gonna make you sign that form. It's basically a document that says an employee under the Enterprise Agreement contract has agreed to work more than 7 days straight. The employee in question must be first notified of this schedule before implementation. Of course, it's your right to refuse.

What happend was, the Supervisors  ****ed up the schedules, and now they're covering their asses by making you sign the document. They're not allowed to make you work such a long week without your permission."

I was shocked! I should have had a choice to begin with! I recalled all those times they made me work 11-hour shifts or cancel my days off when I alreaqdy had something planned or when they'd call me up to cover someone's absence even when I've barely had sleep. For the first time in my career in Star City Casino, I can actually stand up for myself and say "No! I will not take your ****!"

And so my supervisor came back with the document. I saw a box crossed out saying I agreed to this settlement. He asked, "So... all you need is to sign here. This is cool with you right.?"

I took a deep breath and replied: "No. It has been brought to my attention that this agreement must be first discussed with me before any finalization. I checked my roster and I found that I will be working eight days straight, without me being informed that I am to have such a schedule. Sorry, I refuse to work eight days without a break or two in the middle."

The supervisor hung his head low and said "Okay." and walked away from the bar.

I was cheered on by my two companions.

And I got the Monday off.

I always thought that AU was one of the countries that have really strict labor codes.. I mean, they give almost a month or so of vacation leaves worth in a year.. Plus the sick leaves.. plus the bonuses and stuff... That's why it's really impt to know one's labor laws..

Asteeg! Way to go man! Question nga pala, aside from the killer shifts gano ka ok mag-work as a barkeep? May blog ka ba? Meron kasi akong sinusundan na blog tungkol sa waiter sa isang Italian resto sa NY. Galing nya magsulat - http://www.waiterrant.net/

Naisip ko pwede mo rin gawin yun e.

About the leave, it's true. It's probably as strict as being full time in the Philippines... but I'm Casual. I have more flexibility in my time, although I have limited benefits compared to full-timers. I'm not to familiar with labor laws and such, but I can tell you it's good to work here.

I can only rant about so much. Mas mahirap sa US kasi mas rude ang mga tao dun, so maiintindihan ko yung rant nya. Plus, I watched the movie "Waiting", kaya mas makakarelate ako.

Although there was this one period of time na gusto kong gumawa ng comic based on my life in a complimentary bar, entitled "Life Behind Bars". Kaso naisip ko if ever may makabasa nun baka magka-trouble ako sa Casino. I'm in a lot of poop right now eh.

Focus nalang sa "Immersion".

There is a very HIGH demand for workers in the Hospitality Industry here in Australia. With the turnover we have in the Casino, they'd love to have you.

Sometimes you'll have to break a few bones in your body before you find your spine.

I think it's because pinalaki talag silang mga RUDE. I work as a CSR in one of the sattelite providers in the USA and we get calls from rude installers, retail dealers most especially customers. Kaya booming ang call center in the country because they feel that PINOY's are pushovers.. sighs.

False. The Call Center Industry is booming here because labor is cheap, and we can talk decent English. Stop giving yourself a bum rap.

Pinoys are NOT pushovers, and the Americans here know it. If you don't believe me, you can go over to Influent, where my sister heads the HR department. The Americans are no match for her.

And TH, regarding your "entertaining" story... oh never mind.

Well... let's hear what you have to say. I don't mind.

Anyways, I can go toe-to-toe with Americans when it comes to sarcasm. Back in my CSR days, I got counseled a few times for it. It's an amazing feeling to talk back to your rude customers. I still do that a lot as a bartender.

Not worth it. Your story was entertaining, let's leave it at that.
