Milenyo: the crazy thursday
Permalink

The last time I saw a storm that strong (Rosing, 1995), I was a freshie in UP. And believe me, UP never looked more bald afterwards. I bet it looks just as bad now.

I was on the road that thursday. Given the number of flying sheet metal, branches, electric cables, motorcycles (true), and shards from broken signages that flew past my service, I'm amazed I'm still alive. When you add the fact that our vehicle was being pushed to the side by the winds (Literally), I can only thank God I'm still breathing.

You know what they say, though: Mahirap mamatay ang masamang damo.

well we have our own stories to tell and here's mine.

I was still at home when Milenyo struck its full thrust. I was getting ready for a wedding (well, our group in our village were getting ready that time). When it was our time to go, we've decided to move it a few hours later. Floods and Milenyo was still in its full glory. Eventually the lights went out and @ around three pm we've managed to push through.

Despite the colorful flood, we've managed to swam pass by it with our automobiles. But alas, two car's pointer was pointing in the E. So, we tried to look for gas stations. Almost all gas stations' are closed because they have no power. We were lucky we were able to spot an open gas station in the Fort, after five or six gas stations.

Still no power, we've tried almost all the roads that are possible to our destination. Coming from Cainta, we've traveled through Taguig, Makati, Baclaran, and finally Roxas Blvd. Did I say that we could see establishments without power?

How about the Kris' Kissa billboard along Libis bowing? Or that lucky bus in the Magallanes flyover? We've almost seen em all.

And eventually we've reached our destination. A candlelight wedding and an aircon-less reception in Trader's hotel. As Ms. Hilton would say "That's hot!".

Don't forget my blooper, falling off the wedding couple's platform is a moment that you really would want to see. And I was the host that time.

How about going home to Cainta? Well, it was black. Black. Black. Thank God there aren't any African-american's in Manila or else I would be charged with hit and run.

And when we got home? Flood.

Man...that was sure a bad day for a wedding.
But good for the vows. The weather can't stop them from getting married. Astig!

I was ready to go to work then. bathed and all dressed up...
Then the news reported that it was already signal no. 3 in metro manila and that the storm is expected to come around noon. So i decided to stay home.

The sampaloc tree outside my window was fighting the wind and rain. Like watching a huge Ent from the LOTR movie. I was cheering "kaya mo yan Tree!!!"

Got power back saturday around 6pm. Just in time to watch the last half of the 2nd UST-Ateneo game. UST won!!!

Weird thing is that in the whole apartment building, some apartment units have electricity, some don't. I'm just one of those blessed. Everything was back to normal sunday evening.

I hope that doesn't happen again and thank God it was only or a day.

Ako rin magshare... grabeee...

Nasa Alabang Muntinlupa ako during the storm. Hindi pa naman tumataas ang tubig. The storm came around 10:00 am and the power supply shut down, making my design half way finish. When I look ut the window, rooves were flying around, billboard are torn apart. Around 12:00 mahina na ang ulan. Chance na makauwin.

Sa SLEX, traffic! It was horrible. Siksikan kami sa jeep for about three hours. So we have to use the National Road. Unfortunately, lubog na pala ang San Pedro. At hindi lang lubog, as in to the max. I saw a Honda Civic, bubong na lang. We wait for an hour baka bumaba. Kaso lalong tumaas. So we have to make another route, when suddenly the jeep broke down. We have to take another jeep.

Punta kami "Pacita Complex". And everyone is getting crazy.

Did Gloria actually declared Sept 29 Friday as a non working holiday?

kasi I didn't get my salary on that day. the banks were closed, hindi napondohan yung payroll accounts. kaya Ngayon ko lang nakuha! CURSE HER!

You would not have gotten your cash anyway last friday, holiday or not. Banks were on systemwide shutdown because of the power outage.

Going back to my kwento, when the service picked me up, we drove to Sucat road. I watched in horror as the signage of the local McDonalds shattered in front of our eyes. Cool! I picked up a shard as a keepsake.

I actually saw a motorcycle flying in C5. Freaky.

In SM Bicutan, the steel screen that covers the entrances was pushed inwards by the wind.

And I have never seen so many toppled billboards in my life.

I'm planning to make a storyline about those killer billboards.

grabehhh...when classes resumed last monday, nagulat ako sa itsura ng UP. i've never seen so many uprooted, toppled trees in my life. the poor trees...

Imagine kelangan ko pa maki plantsa from Laguna to Pasig
