I guess a lot of you know by now that we have several kababayans aiming to be the first Filipino to reach the summit of Mt. EVEREST. Kudos to them! Whoever reaches the top first, it will still bring glory to our country.
To mark this memorable event, Lyndon Gregorio presents to you...
The Everest Challenge, BEERKADA STYLE (not for the faint of heart..)
The first strip of the set is published today, May 10 at the Philippine Star and will continue to run till next week. ENJOY!
I'm glad you guys liked it. If you go to http://beerkada.i.ph/gallery/everest/everest, the strips unintentionally offended one climber (at least, I think he is a climber).. He took the story line too literally and didnt find it funny, but rather "offensive" daw.. Anyway, each to their own.. I know there has been several instances that some people just don't get, or don't appreciate or even like some of the strips.. It's ok naman.. Better to get comments/repsonses than none at all. Sometimes may valid points naman and can be used for future reference. The point lang I think is that one can't please everybody. :D
On the duct tape, it was just one of those rare instances that jimmy went weirded than normal.. LOL...
Take note, si Jay ang star sa story arc na ito. Cool no? Watch out coz there MIGHT be a future storyline featuring DAna naman, as per popular demand.. :D but don't hold your breaths.. :D
"oh, the river is wide, the river it touches my life...like the waves on the sand...and all roads lead to tranquillity base...where the frown on my face disappears..."

Yeah, read those comments about that guy who was offended by the strips. As Ms. Lei said, Mr. L isn't expected to please everyone.
Did I read that right? Dana in a future storyline?
That's something I could ask Mr. L at the book launch.
I used to be a mountaineer. My left foot is now weaker than my right one because i stepped on 6 foot pile on dead leaves. Still, i find the joke amusing...
"oh, the river is wide, the river it touches my life...like the waves on the sand...and all roads lead to tranquillity base...where the frown on my face disappears..."
Lorie: i'm fine now. After all, it happened two years ago. Now, my left foot is experiencing some kind of spasms, especially pag malamig. that's why i said that my left foot is weaker than my right, but i didn't affect the way i walk, it just affected my endurance in walking.
"oh, the river is wide, the river it touches my life...like the waves on the sand...and all roads lead to tranquillity base...where the frown on my face disappears..."
The Everest strip yesterday shows Jay and Cow reaching the summit.. guess what?
The first Filipino to reach the summit is Heracleo "Leo" Oracion of the First Philippine Mount EVEREST Expedition. He reached it yesterday, May 17 at 530pm here in Manila. He planted the Philippine flag at the top and is quoted as saying: "The Philippine Eagle has landed at the summit of Mt. Everest".
Oracion's teammate, Erwin "Pastor" Emata is aiming to reach the summit today from Camp 4, while Romeo Garduce is currently at Camp 2 (or on his way to Camp 3).
This is truly a historical moment for us all Filipinos. :)
Lorie: hehe.. baka psychotic.. :d joke lang teddy.. chomp! actually matagal na namin naplan na gawin ang strips na ito.. but it was submitted to philstar for printing last week, at nag start ng nung wed.. :D
"oh, the river is wide, the river it touches my life...like the waves on the sand...and all roads lead to tranquillity base...where the frown on my face disappears..."
nabasa ko to sa philstar. nakakatawa nga eh. yep bida nga si jay dito, i always thought he was a supporting character pero at least he had his own story line... pero nangyari tlga ito after ma-release ito... nyahahha!!
dito ko na lang pinost ito ah. bukod sa may nagreact sa strip ni Mr. L about sa Mt. Everest Challenge meron na naman nag-react about sa Beerkada. The Philippine Star. May 27, 2006 Column: INBOX REACTION The Beerkada writer doesn't seem to know his Catholic catechism. Hindi nakakatawa, ni nakakatuwa. -A. Castillo from Parañaque City ganun?! kung nakakatuwa eh bakit marami pa rin ang nagbabasa ng Beerkada. at parami pa ng parami ang nagbabasa. lalo na pag na-release na ang Book 6.
leave them be. talagang ganyan. im assuming he/she is reacting to the glen-andrea strips about the immaculate conception. para di kayo maguluhan, let me clarify. the strips are about the concept of immaculate conception and most christians' mistaken belief that it refers to the birth of christ when it actually refers to the Virgin Mary being born withouth original sin in order for her to be the vessel of Christ, the son of god. Back to the strips, Glen was accused of being wrong in his belief by andrea when in fact, glen is right and andrea is the one who's misunderstood the concept. see the irony? all that matters is the person's ability to stand firm on his belief and faith. if we were to elaborate and explain this all the time, it wouldn't be funny now, would it? :p
ilenz: do you have a copy of phil star? can you scan it and send me/L the file? thanks..
I wonder what's the truth. Why can't they just acknowledge them all as the first batch of FILIPINOS to reach everest? After all, they all sacrificed and suffered a lot.. They should all be heralded as heroes..
Lei: yup! nasa akin ang copy nun. may supplier kasi ako ng Philstar eh. try ko kung paano ko mapapa-scan ito pag hindi ko nagawa i'll bring na lang yung copy sa EB natin.
