I know a person back in my high school days (not my school mate though)....his name is Alloy...i also know a minister who has many children.  Then, another child is born in their family.  Because the minister has many children, he deemed it not necessary to have another child.  So, they named the baby UNNECESSARY.

Fa'ar, I think she told me once, is an African name, pronounced "Far". Pero Pilipina siya.

Isip pa ako.

Ipat (female), naging speaker namin dati.

I'm not sure if tama yung syllabication, pero parang ganito: In my high school, there was a girl named Adora dela Cerna, and a guy named Ador Adel Lacerna.

Mga naging classmates ko:

Jean Francois. Nothing unusual really, but the males in his family, yung variations nun ang mga pangalan. i.e. Johann Frantz.

Iola, pronounced Yola, but people call her Ay-yow-la.

Licitrel Maria Aldonza, and her sister, Jerayl Maria Veritas.

Sining, whose brother is Agham (named after College of Arts and Sciences, or Kolehiyo ng Agham at Sining). An economics prof named his twin sons Miguel Carlito and Miguel R---- (forgot what the R stands for). Basta it was inspired by the concept of MR = MC, or marginal revenue is equal to marginal cost.

Supriya, nickname Supu pronounced Sow-puh.

There's also a girl in my barangay named Rucil. Her parents registered that name thinking it's the spelling for Rochelle. She later had it legally changed to the latter.

Sounds like she's from India, or one of those countries in that part of the globe.

On topic: <?> Hector Atom and Vector Ion. Maybe I have their names mixed up.  They're twins. And their sister's Agham Bayan.

i read an article back in college tungkol nga sa mga pangalan. dun ko nalaman yung style na may kinokombine na names...
-> cysethe perpetua. classmate ko from kinder til highschool. lam ko combo ng grandparents' names nya and cysethe. (parang sa kin.)

tapos yung pag magkakapatid tipong may pattern ang pangalan.
i have female cousins who are sisters and their names all start with maria...
-> ma. louisa, ma. estella, ma. chona and so on...
my friend, who, like her siblings, has two names which are of the initials J.E.

at bakit nga ba may mga "jhon"? dapat "john" yan eh. oh well...

seraiah dane. another classmate from kinder to highschool. we always misspelled her name. nakakalimutan madalas ang isang "a".

nara rana. name and surname. binaliktad lang noh?

clarwin. tapos yung nick nya CL.

hmmm.... i'll try to remember some more.

I had a classmate in high school named Kishwer Qureshi. She's Pakistani Muslim, I think, which is strange (only) because I went to a Catholic school (in fact I only remember three other 2 other Muslim girls who went to our school, namely Caroline Mangarun and Yasmira Panggandappun. Pag Ramadan hindi sila kumakain tapos nagpapaypay sila kasi naaamoy nila yung food. I wondered aloud why they went to Catholic school, although okay lang naman, and Carol said kasi walang Muslim school sa Manila )

Tapos you know that old joke/rumor/urban legend circulating that there were 2 guys named Edgar Allan Pe and Jonathan Livingston Sy studying in U.P.? We made a few of those up, like Don Jones Ong and Audie See (meron yatang ganito talaga). Pero we had a friend na ang name ay Raggedy Ang (as in Raggedy Ann, the doll). Yung friend ko, yung sister nya may classmate na ang pangalan ay Benneth Ong (as in the clothing brand Bennetton).

Yung isang friend ko is named Eric Go -- pretty straightforward, so akala ko okay lang. Si Kuya Van Go.

Isip pa ako.

My friend, a Star Wars fan, named his son Anakin.

A schoolmate was named Venus by parents who're into mythology. Unfortunately, she didn't exactly live up to the name of the goddess of beauty. (Bad ako.)

Yung pumalit sa kin sa dati kong boarding house. Her hippie parents named her Paper Moon; friends call her Moon.

His parents were expecting a girl, eh lalaki yung lumabas. He was named that after the color that the indicator flashed out sa delivery room. This was because the parents didn't prepare names in case boy nga ang  lumabas.

Sa pamangkin ko, si Sebastien. Ethan Jules ang napag usapan ng parents. When he was born, kasagsagan ng Jules- Assunta issue. Biglang nag change of plans kasi ayaw ng Ate kong isipin na inspired by Jules ang name. Last minute (since kinailangan for birth cert/ hosp reg purposes), they decided on Sebastien. It was suggested by my then 3yr old niece Bea. Sebastien was inspired by (correct me if I'm wrong) Horatius Ignatius Crustaceous Sebastian. FYI, that's the crab from Disney's The Little Mermaid.

Name ko, inspired by Nadja Comaneci, first gymnast to score a perfect 10 (at siyempre, di ako pasaado sa gymnastics). I was born 10pm  of  Oct 10; the 10th grandchild. But no, I don't respond to people who call me Tenten.

Which reminds me of a professor of mine named Liborio. First day of classes, he warned us NOT to call  him that. He answers to Levi though. Same as a prof named Raimund; pag daw mali spelling ng name niya sa test paper, the student gets an automatic zero.

As for patterns sa name, a colleague names her kids after countries, in alphabetical order. Eldest is Ashia, sunod si Brazil (male). Third child will be named Cairo, with the spelling depending on the gender. I suggested Checkoslovakia.

Yung dati kong neighbor, Beulah ang name. I think it's supposed to refer to Zion or Israel. Tapos ang anak niya, her pastor husband named her Nile Life.

Used to know a Beulah. She was a b!+(#.

Hated it every time I called her older sister on their landline phone and Beulah was the one who answered. Ever since, I never liked that name. Sorry to those I just offended.

On topic: Lakan, a guy. If I remember correctly, his brother is Dax. Those aren't nicknames.
