Any punk band you know that you like, and why?

It's 2006...i'm talking to my former students, and ask them, "You know what punk music is?" They gave their ideas, and it's vague.


Being born at the time that U2 (they're classified new wave/pop) is just becoming famous, i'm asking this question: Any punk band that you know that you like...and why?

Sex Pistols. The Ramones. `Nuff said.

I am still amazed at the evolution of U2. If you listen to their earliest work, you'd think it was a different band altogether.

You also like Ramones...they're considered as the "beatles of punk".  They're known for their simple 3 or 4 chord pattern especially their earlier works. About U2, oh well, if they didn't change their style, they'll not be that famous.  At least Bono is still the activist that we know.

sila yung kumanta ng american idiot, and yung mahabang title na hindi ko matandaan-tandaan.

Biglang green dept.    At least punkish pa rin ang dating.  By the way, ano yung banda nung apo ni Dating President Marcos? Siya yung vocalist.  Babae.  She considers herself and her band PUNK.

Ka-age group ko siya (nasa 20s), kasi i heard her once ( if my memory is right, Little Aimee tawag sa kanya).  She's not that old.

The clash, sex pistol are punk.  Wuds and Philippine Violators are punk.  You can tell punkl by its dirty style strumming the guitar.  GNR's guitar's style is cool (slash) though

Glam rock bands, like skid row and guns and roses are known basically by their very "hollywood type" of get up...punks are known to "recycle" things up.  Today, some youngsters think they are punk but they are not....I remember papadom (vocalist of tropical depression. he used to be punk by the way) said, "today, ang kabataan bibili lang ng damit na ganito, and presto, punk na..."  what he means is that punks improvised. 


Another characteristic of punk is they're known usually by their "hate songs".  Wuds, for example, hit the government and its system (in most cases punks do protest songs, especially back then).  Another thing, try listening to ramones, billy idol, the clash, even green day, you'll notice a distinct pattern in the way they strum the guitar.  My kuya, a bassist, describes it "marumi mag-gitara". 


Anyone who wants to add up?

Yellowcard?  I admit i didn't hear of them, but there are bands that you may call "emo-punk" (emotional punk)...i don't listen to radio nowadays...i'll ask my kuya...4000 songs ang nakalagay sa i-pod niya.


Porky:  Agaw-agimat? malupit yun...about the blindfold thing...mahilig sa mga ganun ang punk (others call it weird performance).  There's a time during a sex pistol concert that the vocalist performed MY Way while inside a CR (i forgot the exact detail).

Ilenz: I was in high school when i found out about punk (1993-1997) music.  Being a reader that i am, i began to read.  Now, my knowledge about them is rusty (i admit).  There are punks who are not into those mo-hawk thing and Robert Smith-like hairdo (like i am).  


Maybe one of these days i'll update myself...but concerts?  Malabo ngayon.  Iba na kasi ang mga lumabas na punks ngayon.

i like the pioneers... sex pistols the best for me...


then the post-punk bands - bands like green day, mxpx, new found glory, (the now defunct) blink-182, the german band donots... perfect with skateboarding, i tell ya. lalo na yung songs ng lagwagon. i like it when i rip. hehehehe.

Some call themselves punk because of they listen to punk...others call themselves punk because of their fashion.  Others by principle.  Yeah right. i still hear them.
