In the 1960's a guy called Howless Wibur Allen invented a new type of bow. They called it an "Allen Bow" in the beginning.

Apparently the sport's governing body wasn't too hot for the new invention even though it seemed to be the better type of equipment.

However, a famous archer and magazine editor loved the new bows and wrote an article titled:

A Bow with a Compound Interest

And so was born the "Compound Bow".

The Curse of the Bambino was a superstition cited, often jokingly, as a reason for the failure of the Boston Red Sox baseball team to win the World Series in the 86-year period from 1918 until 2004.

The curse was said to have begun after the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth, sometimes called The Bambino, to the New York Yankees in the off-season of 1919-1920.

Talk of the curse as an ongoing phenomenon ended in 2004, when the Red Sox came back from a 0-3 best-of-seven deficit to beat the Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series and then went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals to win the 2004 World Series.

It is even discussed from the movie "fever pitch". biggrin.gif

In the episode "Five Faces of Darkness (Part 1)", the character Abdul Fakkadi was introduced as the "Supreme Military Dictator, King of Kings, and President for Life of the Socialist Democratic Federated Republic of Carbombya." This was an obvious play on tensions between the United States and Libya. Fakkadi's name is a near anagram of Libyan President Moammar Kadaffi's name. Casey Kasem, who voiced the character Cliffjumper and the Autobots' computer Teletraan I and who is of Lebanese descent, objected to the parody, and quit the show when it was not removed from the episode. Cliffjumper, despite having survived the movie, was phased out as of that episode, and Teletraan I was destroyed with the Ark in the episode "Five Faces of Darkness (Part 5)."

Coffee beans are not beans. True beans are the pods or seeds of ceratin leguminous plants, such as mongo, used mainly for food. Coffee "beans" are actually the seeds, or pits, of a red cherrylike fruit.

Neon Genesis Evangelion NERV's slogan came from Robert Browning's play/poem Pippa Passes published in 1841 as the first volume of his Bells and Pomegranates series.

The year's at the spring,
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hill-side's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in his Heaven -
All's right with the world!

It is also the Anne Shirley's last sentence in Lucy Maude Montgomery's classic Anne of Green Gables.

Sometime during the 1906, the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (USCGS) now National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), established a geodetic marker drilled in a cubic meter of diorite rock on a mountaintop located at the boundaries of Brgy. Argao, Hinanggayon and Silangan, Mogpog,  13°33'41"N, 121°52'3"E. This is the Luzon Datum of 1911, a very important geodetic point marker which is used as point number one for all map makers in the country. This marker is at first level accuracy.

in addition:
accdg to the creator. the spartans really are that good of a warrior that they defy most rules on warfare.

having long hair can be dangerous coz the enemy might pull it but they insist on having long hair (the enemy will die before they can reach for it)

they wear capes which can also be a disadvantage still they say its like "partida"

they dont wear armor coz theyre heavy, and wont be much help.

Also, Spartans frowned at the use of arrows as a warrior must know who he killed, thus the necessity of killing the opponent up close and personal.

Further, as for the betrayal, they had it coming..... with or without the help of Ephialtes. Some people around the region despised the Spartans for their "warrior" culture... to such extent they would sell them out to have them wiped out.

older nokia phone models that has the "special" message alarm is actually a code!

it goes something like this:

dit-dit-dit beep-beep dit-dit-dit

its morse code !

. . . _ _ . . . or S M S

Another Morse code related trivia.

The great American inventor Thomas Alva Edison suffered early from deafness and taught his would-be-wife Morse code while he was courting her. When she was able to send and receive messages, Edison proposed to her by tapping out the message on her hand. She answered in similar fashion. After they were married, they often 'spoke' to each other in Morse code. When they attended a play, Mrs. Edison kept her hand on her husband's knee and telegraphed tha actor's words to him so he culd appreciate the performance.

I can't remember where I read this, but I read that the original Captain Barbell was actually half-naked (shirtless), and they only gave him a costume because nobody back then was muscular enough to portray him in a movie.

Speaking of hearts, contrary to common belief, the human heart is not situated on the body's left side. Most of it is on the right side, although its apex is a little to theleft of the body's center line in a tilted angle. this position puts the left ventricle -- the heart's strongest pumping chamber -- slightly up the surface. Since the left ventricle produces more sound than its right counterpart, it give the impression that the entire organ is on the left side of the chest.

The burning sensation in a patient's chest caused by regurgitated gastric juice called "heartburn" is a misnomer. The condition is more accurately described as "esophagus burn".

kaya daw heartburn ang term dito e kasi mahina daw yung cardiac sphincter near the entrance to the stomach. :D and despite its name, heartburn actually has nothing to do with the heart.

Cats, like people, are either right handed or left handed -- that is, they favor either their right or left paws. However, cats do not have the ability to taste sweet things.

-When your cats rubs up against you, she is actually marking you as "hers" with her scent. If your cat pushes his face against your head, it is a sign of acceptance and affection.

-Cats respond better to women than to men, probably due to the fact that women's voices have a higher pitch.

-When a domestic cat goes after mice, about 1 pounce in 3 results in a catch.

-Female felines are "superfecund," which means that each of the kittens in her litter can have a different father.

Cellophane is not made of plastic as commonly presumed. It is made from a plant fiber, cellulose, which has been shreded and aged.

Same with papaya and pineapples. Incidentally that's why they don't use fresh pieapples with gelatin, which is mostly protein, because the enzymes in the pineapple will digest the gelatin.

Biological warfare is not a novel thing in warfare. Diseased corpses were launched into a besieged city via the catapult 'express' in order to create infectious atmosphere inside the walls
