Okay, this is what I need. I need ideas on topics to do. If you had to sell manila to some clueless foreigner who thinks we live in trees, what would you sell? Food? Vibe? Lifestyle?

Food, culture, people, a round-up of everything about the province/region.... Wait, that's getting too broad. Okay, I'll pimp our country's food for starters.

I want to sell them food. But I'm a vegetarian nowadays.. So, I don't think I am the best food guide. Sites siguro.. It is true na third world country tayo, pero kasi I've learned a lot since I have been to Sagada. :P sobrang astig ung engineering ng fore fathers nila or natin! kasi they are (NOTE: present tense) practising a custom, the hanging coffin and the path to those rocks of hills are steep and seriously people! One would think how the heck they do that!? Of course, tinanong namin sa tour guid namin. And there was some pulleys involve! pero kahit na! Ung pababa kasi na daan ay matatarik! And picturing them carrying the 4-5 ft coffin is really a mystic!
hehehe.. And not to mention the astounding idea behind the rice terraces.. Engineers people!!

I am not sure kung sa atin nanggaling ung original idea ng terracing, kasi merun din sa ibang Asian countries eh. It's around 2000 to 6000 years old, and is considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995 pa. Because of this, it is also touted as the oldest rice terraces in the world, tapos mysterious daw kung panu daw ito ginawa ng mga Ifugao, with the same mystery katulad ng kung panu duin daw ginawa ung Pyramids sa Egypt.

That's why we are doing everything possible to maintain the rice terraces - ours is the one that is best known to have survived long enough.

Kung pagkain ang pag-uusapan, Manila is already a whole buffet table. We have the tons of street food, the turo-turo food in Estero (Binondo?), the hotel cuisine, the exotic dishes in Ermita (and the restaurants and bars, but that's another story)... But I believe every part of Manila specializes in something depending on the area. So far, Binondo and Ermita are the only places whose connection to food I am a bit familiar with.

Wait, I almost forgot the students' hangouts in Intramuros. Masarap ang lechon kawali doon, kaya lang laging nauubos agad. T_T

We know that Inramuros as well as all of the districts of Manila have a vibrant cultural life and history outside skyscrapers and malls andother recent urban developments

However, Manila is not alone in having a lot to offer more than seedy night spots, malls and the projects suited to their Mayors' vanity to offer.

For instance, it cannot be deneid and discussed frequently that Makati has a life outisde the CBD and Jojo Binay. We all know of the flea markets. I bet you have also heard of Guadalupe Nuevo plus the Augustinian Seminary behind the billboards (I've been to a wedding held in the Church there).

tenk is right about binondo but...the place is crawling with chinese resto...pilandok and i are once from there( i beleive he's still there.). best turo turo is around tutuban area! yeah!
now thats a party!

makati has their "jolli-jeeps" which is kinda original (since tayo lang ang may jeepney)
other countries has bus for resto's.

i believe pinoy dishes are really good if paired with rice! sweet, spicy and flavorful!

yeah, maybe food is our best market

first to sell would be the food as they've mentioned. madami na silang pagpipilian from manila alone... kahit hindi masyadong exotic ang ihain mo madami pa rin nmang ibang putahe na pwede nating ioffer sa foreigners..

next would be a tour around manila.
[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=mCHOgkOyJic]

here is a clip for example. Ramon bautista stars as your personal tourist guide to the philippines. brought to us by ra rivera, inksurge, asuka, together with furball and nerd world cinema.
biggrin

If it's a tour around Manila, then it'll be all the good food places around Intramuros, Ongpin, Binondo, Quiapo.

other than the food, the tour can also venture to the key religious spots in Manila from artifacts of ancient animist beliefs in the National Museum to the Manila Golden Mosque to Manila Cathedral and San Agustin Church moving to some old Protestant Churches, an INC Kapilya moving on to an El Shaddai Rally

The El Shaddai rallies are now mostly done in Paranaque. I think it's Jesus Miracle Crusade or Apollo Quiboloy's group who holds meetings at the Quirino Grandstand.

Wrong.  Check out India.  Check out Africa.  Make sure your comments are correct before you post them.  You're lucky Lei hasn't ripped your head off yet.

And sorry, I can't resist...

Happycat corrected:

Re: topic, how about the churches in Manila? Parang pang Stations of the Cross..

Roachy: Thanks for sharing.. kilala mo si RA? Kuya sya nung kaklase ko nung HS..

re:video, what does he mean when he says 'he's not a digital artist'? For us Filipinos, his 'acting' is okay and funny.. but when (close minded) foreigners see this.. ugh.. what would they think?

Nice music but would have preferred a little more words (prior to the 3 minute mark).. As much as I don't want to hear him talk.. Visual is okay, but non-Filipinos would not know what they are seeing and would need to be told.. It's a bit misleading because as a guide to the "Philippines" only Manila (not even the whole of Metro Manila) was shown.
