its just to hard to be true, but pirated DVD is just to cheap to be ignored, how can you decrease piracy??eradicate if ever? and help the movie industry to move up, admit it, you yourself have bought a pirated once!!

if our local stores can sell us the likes of kurosawa, marx brothers' movies, monty python related movies, kubrick movies, and hitch**** movies, then i'm for no piracy.

malabo yata un. parang ndi kaya. walang magbebenta kung walang bibili, sadly madaming bibily kasi mas mura un kaysa manood ng sine. compare the prices, sa 30php may dvd ka na, different movies pa, eh isang movie ticket 100+ na. so pano na?
With our economy today, that's kinda hard. Pirated DVDs are a real treat to the masses. I'm against piracy, really, but like spydie said, I must admit that I buy pirated DVDs most of the time. And like pilandok said, hard to find movies becomes more available... But believe me, I really am against piracy. I just wish that entertainment is more affordable.
i think there is really no hope, except for lower prices on movies and dvd's, price really is what matters, kaya nga ako kahit puro itim at tao lang nakikita ko pinagtiyatiagaan na lang ang pirated eh, plus factor pa yung distance ng sinehan. hirap pag taga province :))

anyway, movies aren't made for the masses, they're made for the paying bourgeoisie in turn, pirated by the masses to partially alleviate their woes by watching them. Here's one way to curb piracy though, while allowing the masa to buy them safe. Instead of having the big movie producers themselves make the dvd versions of the film, allow entrepreneurial minds to franchise the movies and mass produce them.
Introduce the next level of technology that will be superior to the current dvd system. something that is pirate-resistant. remember, the cassette/vhs system of yore was pirate-resistant.
tama, as all of you know ugali ng mga pinoy tech adek, always having a way to copy others , tignan mo MP4 mo, lahat nagagaya, so theirs no way to stop piracy, except a better market price, law of price, di ba, lower price higher demand

stopping piracy? stop corruption first before it will be done
indeed.. pero kahit may isa lang na natitirang corrupt sa gobyerno, macocorrupt parin ang system.. kaya ganun din sa dvd piracy, hanggat may nagppirate pa kahit isa, hindi pa yan mawawala.
vhs/beta (as well as cassettes) wasn't pirate-proof but it was pirate-resistant. that is why we didn't see the mass piracy of betas/cassettes as we do with vcds/dvds.
the issue is a technological one. there is one way to stop piracy: bring torrents down to the level of the masses. people won't pay for movies when they can download them for free.
and before you say torrents/dsls/high-speed internet is beyond the reach of the masses, again it is a matter of technology. we may be talking about years, but it may happen.

hey hey hey, not all pinoy tech does that. well i don't usually do it though.
I wouldn't be surprised that in the future movie producers and distributors would have release options other than releasing them first to cinemas then to video followed by its broadcast on a TV or cable network.
They can release it to theaters at the same time, paying subscribers view it in the comfort of their own homes using video streaming (much like Youtube) for a higher fee, these viewers can download them (much like bit torrents)

Unfortunately, movie producers and distributors don't adapt to new technology that quicky. They would rather clamp down on them and stick to tried and tested means to get the most $$$$. They would drive such tech underground where they continue to threaten the industry

Proceeds ng mga pinirata na video and all that are being used to finance the training of Filipino muslims sa Afghanistan. At pagbalik nila, kasali na sila sa hanay ng mga Abu Sayyaf bandits.
