I'm very sure a significant number of memebers of this forum lives, works, studies or for some reason has to go to Metro Manila on a regular basis.
Part of the experience of life in Metro Manila is having to commute by train to your destination wheteher it be the LRT (Taft), MRT(EDSA) or LRT2 (Aurora Boulevard).
Last year, Lyndon made a controversial series of strips on his rants and experience of riding the jeepney. Now, this is your chance to post your rants and stories of taking the train.

when i was still studying at dlsu, pag ndi ako pwede ihatid, i take the lrt...it's so hard kasi pag mga 7-8am rush hour yan...super jampacked ang train...nakakainis lang yung mga tao na alalam na nga nila na super ppuno na to the point na parang susuka na yung train, they still force themselves inside...as in tutulak nila yung mga tao sa loob para lang makasakay...that's why pag ganun yung train i dont force myself inside...madadala ka lang sa malayo...and the worst thing that could happen to you is pag malapit ka na sa station mo, ndi ka nakababa kasi sa super dami ng tao, nakulong ka na dun...and ayaw pa mag hive way ng mga tao...another thing yung pag pababa ka na ng train, uunahan ka pa ng mga papasok...hello?pwede naman maganaty muna before sila pumasok eh...augh!nakakainis..tas minsan sa super puno, amoy b.o. na...eew...masama pa nun, papasok palang ako sa school, iba na amoy ko dahil sa mga tao...hehehe!kaya mas like ko mag fx nalang kesa mag lrt pag mga rush hour...sacrifice nalang sa time...i have to wake up super early para ndi malate...

I remember when I took the LRT from an entrance I exam I took for PNU a few months ago, I was hoping to take their newly imported cars.
After a few minutes wait the train was finally there. Apparently its some special train of theirs that help passengers lose weight. It has no airconditioning so you can sweat off all that excess fat.
Apparently, I rode one of their sauna cars.

I was riding the MRT as soon as I stepped in college. I travel from cubao to makati so I have to ride the MRT. As in sobrang hassle. If my class starts at 7:30 am, I have to wake up 5:00 in the morning just to avoid rush hours. So dapat before 7:00 nasa station ka na or else, you'll be caught up in the peak of rush hours. As in pag sinabi mong rush hour, as in rush hour. Malalaman mo yung feeling ng mga sardinas kung pano sila ilagay sa lata. as in kahit di ka humawak sa mga safety hand rails (which is not, hygienically speaking) di ka matutumba! and pag labas mo ng train, para kang basang sisiw. yung type na para kang yung sisiw sa loob ng balot!!! pag-alis mo sa bahay, mabango at maayos pa itsura mo, paglabas mo ng train, para kang dinaanan ng stampede!!! Tapos pag minalas ka pa, pag mahaba na pila sa loob ng station, di ka na makakapasok esp if south bound ka every morning. same din sa rush hours sa gabi... esp pag fridays... kaya no choice ako kung mag round trip sa taft... and yung sa megatren naman or LRT line 2, so far ok naman kaso matagal ng mga train... maluwag siya and can accommodate a lot of people. pwede ka pa ngang humiga sa sahig sa luwag. but matagal lang talaga siya... another thing pa pala, naranasan nyo na ba na masira yung mga train na you have to alight the train kahit wala pa kayo sa station kasi talagang sira? luckily, ako di pa naman. nasisira siya pero sa mismong station siya nasisira. just imagine yourself na pababain kayo ng train sa pagitan ng ortigas and santolan station (good luck!).tatalon na lang siguro ko sa kalsada ng edsa pag nangyari yun.
kaya ngayon, i take a carpool going to work as long na may pila pa. para less hassle. pero i still ride the MRT and LRT2 (unfortunately, di ako masyado nakakasakay ng LRT1) pag inevitable...
pero despite those things, i guess di mo masasabing naging kumpleto na ang buhay mo kapag di ka pa nakakasakay sa LRT1 & 2 at MRT... kaya SAKAY na!!!

I have a gut feeling the MRT balances trains the same way Jeepney terminals do. The dispatchers, drivers and conductors never let the jeep off unless its jampacked para sulit sa pamasahe.
One thing I observe is that if you're going South and you're going to get off at anywhere between Santolan-Annapolis and Magallanes, expect not to be seated or to be herded far away from the door. There is a 1:2 chance that everyone who is cramming the train are getting off at Taft.
Commonsensically speaking, it's the fastest and cheapest way of getting to the opposite ends of Metro Manila so expect guys who need to get to Taft to go home to ALabang, Paranaque, Las Pinas or even Cavite.

last year after ng Uaap finals...it was raining hard. I think it was around 9:30 to 10 pm already....naligaw kami sa station. 4th time ko nang sumakay ng mrt pero naligaw pa in kmi! pano ba naman cnara nila ung mga daanan so we had to find a way...yun nga lang naligaw kami. at umuulan nun. basang-basa kami. tumutulo damit namin nung makapasok kami sa SM. anlamig grabe, nag-chi-chill ako nun. I'll never forget that!
if i were to choose between lrt1,mrt and lrt2, i'd go for lrt2...super luwag, their coaches are big enough, malamig aircon, and malinis...maybe siguro bago plang...i dont like ridong the mrt...super sikip, and minsan ndi mo alam kung anong door yung magoopen...cguro im not used to riding the mrt..pag uaap lang..pero ang hassle kasi super haba pa ng pila...i haven't experienced riding in the new trains of lrt1...bago na daw yun eh...sana nga lahat na may aircon dahil super init pa naman ng panahon...i miss riding those trains...

i was able to ride the new train sa LRT 1. YEs, malamig siya but no use pa rin kasi sa sobrang dami ng tao, wala ng effect yung aircon.. mainit pa rin... and don naman sa mega train ot lrt 2, maganda sana siya kaso ewan ko ba kung bakit lagi nasisira yung mga train nila... what's worse is kokonti lang ang train ng LRT 2 kaya badtrip rin...

Which is stupid, when you really think about it. You paid at the entrance, not at the car. The least they can do is to provide more cars.
If I had my way, I'd implement the following changes on our MRT/LRT lines:
More trains on all lanes
Retire the trains from MRT-2 and LRT and replace them with the trains they use on MRT-3
Put up more ticket dispensers to cut down those horrible lines at MRT 2
Buy off the land near the MRTs so we can put up something there, like a condominium or a small shopping center. I'd also integrate a transport terminal at each station, if I could.
And lastly... I'd put up more MRT lines! MRT everything, Goddammit
Cow's right, more train more convenient. and take out those freaky anti-piracy cops out. They're really a hassle especially if you have your home-burned movies.
i also agree that they should add more trains in mrt... but i think it's quite impossible to put trains like those of the megatren in the mrt... well, it's not really impossible, but they will have to recontruct or renovate the whole mrt from scratch, from the railraod tracks to the stations... cause the trains in megatren will not fit the railing of MRt cause megatren is some what wider than those of the mrt... but they could make it longer by adding more coaches though...

From what I know, the MRT is having management problems at the moment since they owe several government agencies money. What's more one of the owners, the Sobrepenas allegedly funneled funds from their other other businesses namely College Assurance Plans (CAP) into the MRT hence the collapse of that pre-need company

have you heard of the past issue regarding the foundation of the Megatrain/LRT2 which tells that the foundation of the rail road tracks are not that strong and someday it may collapse... which is isang malaking WTH! they're given millions of (or billions even) pesos budget for that project and they would just do a mediocre one... they're even not ensuring the safety of the thousands of patrons riding the LRT2. Maybe it won't happen today,or tomorrow, or even in some couple of years to come but eventually, it will be degrade... i know that nothings permanent but atleast it would last much longer if they've really made it perfect or better...

On my way home after getting my RMC ID from my school, I rode the LRT line to EDSA to then take the MRT. I noticed that the air con on the older trains seems to be more "cooler" than the newer trains.
From MRT Edsa, the train of course was jam packed as we reach Shaw then Ortigas (it was almost 6) then I noticed that we seemed to have stopped @ Annapolis for such a long time (around 2-3 minutes more than the usual stop) only to hear the voice of the driver: " Pasensya na po may technical difficulties lang po yung train, kailangan pong bumaba lahat nang pasahero." Of course curses could be heard after he said his spiel, and he had to repeat it several times as people wouldn't even budge from their seat. The driver said another train would pick up the passengers again. However people thought it'll be a train with no passengers, which wasn't the case. It took at least 4-5 semi packed trains to clear the set and Annapolis had to stop issuing cards for a moment until the group of "displaced" passengers were gone. And when some of the people demanded a refund of their tickets MRT denied the request stating that there would be other trains to pick them up.
Sheesh.

just want to comment on COW's post. "And lastly... I'd put up more MRT lines! MRT everything, Goddammit".
i believe, there's a new train line coming up but i'm not sure if matutuloy siya or wala pang budget... as far as i know, they're going to built a line from alabang yata upto bulacan (Meycauayan yata yun... sorry sa spelling.. correct me if i'm wrong na lang...)
nakita ko lang before.. basta may picture siya... sa LRT2 stations ko nakita yun if i'm right... basta connected sya sa line LRT1 and 2 tska MRT3.. if yellow lane yung LRT1, Purple sa LRT2 and blue sa MRT3, Green lane yata yun as far as i remember...
wala lang... FIY lang...

Oh that, I'm aware of. If I'm not mistaken, there is a proposed lane that starts from Del Monte, Bulacan that will run through Commonwealth Ave (up to QAve MRT), another lane from Cavite (Imus and Bacoor) that will run through Las Piñas and Pasay (up to Baclaran LRT), and that lane from Alabang that will run through the South Superhighway.
And, we haven't even started talking about the Northrail/Southrail projects yet...
The question here is, when are we going to see this push thru?
i was not aware of the other lanes proposed... ang natatandaan ko lang is yung green lane issue... but parang medyo malabo yung sa map... especially the orange lane... bakit siya nagbranch to 2 rails? or am i just blind?

Infrastructure problems.. Too many establishments would be displaced... thanks to poor judgment... Eh, I just tried the MRT subway (here) it's cool, yet easy to forget your destination.
The MRT system in Hong Kong is nice. I loved the fact that they built malls, condos, and public areas around the newer MTRs (as the system is called over there), instead of the other way around. The MRT system in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur gets the job done as well. I didn't have time to try out the BTS and the subway in Bangkok, so I don't have a point of comparison.
i know that at some point or points, they're all connected. just curious about the orange lane in particular...
anyway, i think it would be better if they just make it underground or subway stations like those of other countries... it wouldn't occupy that much space like the existing once 'cause they're underground... but the problem is, it's more expensive and will cost a great amount of government funds... But the heck with the government funds, we're paying it so i think we deserve what our money's worth...

The locations of MRT stations here are a mixed bag. Shaw and Ayala were well situated as they are adjacent to nearby malls. Even better for Cubao and Taft where the mall owners have made it easy and comfortable to switch to different lines. Unfortunately, if you have to board or get off at any other MRT station take it as an opportunity to exercise.
If you happen to go to UP Diliman by MRT, I strongly suggest you start your trip early. It's not only a long walk to the jeep terminal. it's also a long wait before the jeep fills up with enough passengers. remember what happened to Glen?

i had one heck of an experience with MRT security pala... ewan ko ba kung bakit minsan may ganon at minsan wala... depende yata sa station... as i was going to enter the station, may dala ko take out ng burger and fries ( i drank the coke na kasi baka di ipapasok)... tapos when the guard sees it sabi ba sakin na iwan ko daw kasi bawal. sabi ko di ko naman kakainin eh... tsaka nasa plastic naman... pero rules daw.. so i left my food na lang para wala ng gulo... then, when i was already in the train, i saw the guard eating my food...
