Think I'll print out your recipe so I can cook it for a female special someone who adores fried chicken. Thanks, Mr. Goh!

Questions:

Which cities outside the Metro have you visited?

Have you been on an airplane? Where did you go?

Do you still get to watch TV? Please name your favourite shows/ channels.

Taking my cue from Ariel's questions...

So what's your spiritual anchor now, if any?
Would you consider yourself an atheist, an agnostic, or a deist?
Religion is basically a matter of faith, which is usually a point of contention with non-believers, who espouse logic. What's your stand on this?

And okay, fine, some softballs...

Favorite Sharon Cuneta movie?
Panchito or Chiquito?
Noranian or Vilmanian?

1. Suppose I'm a potential investor looking for one comic book artist to support and market, what would you say to convince me to pick you?

2. You're inside a courtyard with high walls and no door. You were provided with a chewing gum and paper clip to make your escape and/or defend yourself against the lion there with you. How would you go about it?

3. An inventor of a time machine opened the chance for anyone, and only one person to go back in time to change his/her personal history. The condition is you have to convince him with only three words. No more, no less. What would those three words be?

4. You only have five seconds to stop the clock inside an atom bomb, which wire would you cut: the red or the green wire?

5. A soldier from the future arrives in a time portal and tells you that you not only saved the world but also ushered in an age of utopia. You asked him how so, but he only managed to say "comic strip" before time ran out and he disappeared. How would you specifically fulfill your destiny?

6. You woke up one day to find that you look and sound like the comedienne Pokwang. What's the first thing you would do?

Wing Zero:

- I've been to Caloocan, Kalibo, Cebu, Baguio and the Emerald City.

- Airplane, yes. I've been to Cebu, Aklan, Hong Kong, Japan (stop-over nga lang), South Korea and the US.

- Nah, bihira na ako mag-TV. Purong VCDs at DVDs na lang.

Psychocow:

- Buddhism. Specfically the Nichiren sect.

- Technically, Buddhism is an atheistic religion therefore I'm basically an atheist. However, the atheist part in Buddhism is limited to the disbelief in creator-type deities. Just because we don't believe in something like the Judeo-Christian God doesn't mean we don't believe in some high forces. There's still the karma, the Buddhas and the bodhisattvas.

- I don't agree that religionists are that contented. There are some who barely scratched the surface of their own religions and wish to explore the depths. This is something that demands research.

- Pitong Gatang. You know, the one with Da King?

- Panchito. He's funnier in my opinion.

- Neither. I'm Liconian.

Heffer Wolfe:

- My art is decent, my writing is good and I'm the best when it comes to conceptualization.

- Just because there's no door doesn't mean there's no other opening. AHA! Loophole!

- "I say so." Either that or "**** you, nerd."

- Wait a minute, atom bombs use clocks?

- If I'm really destined to save the future then I'll just do my best to draw comic strips.

- make people laugh I guess.

- Machiavelli and Hitler suck! I learn nothing really good from them. Besides, I have a much cooler style of politics. It goes something like this...

First, using my wits and charisma, I'll enter the turbulent world of politics. Then, slowly but surely, I'll win the presidential seat. Once I'm in power, I'll invest billions of pesos on psychic technology. Then, using mind-control devices, I can take over the minds of every Filipino politician with great ease so there won't be any opposition. After taking full control of politics, I'll easily win more love and respect of the Filipino people with impressive speeches, compelling gimmicks and promises of fortune and glory. With an entire nation backing me up, I'll rename the Philippines as Liconia and then establish a monarchial government ruled by me as Emperor. Under my iron yet benevolent hand, I'll rule the Royal Empire of Liconia (formerly known as the Philippines) and take over the rest of the world using my psychic technology ala-Command and Conquer: Yuri's Revenge.

bugoytheman:

- Yes I'm into meditation and I think Maharishi Yogi seemed pretty okay although I've never practiced it before.

- Jet Li (awesome)
Sasha Mitchell (sorry never seen her fight)
Jean Claude Van Damme (stretchy)
Sammo Hung (cool)
Yuen Biao (cool)
Jacky Chan (awesome)
Bruce Lee (iconic)

From all the food that you have cooked, which is your favorite dish to prepare?
What do you think is your specialty?
if you were to invent a new dish, what would it be?

- I realized that I wasn't happy enough with Christianity. Too dogmatic, too many rules, too much politics, too much controversy and I don't agree with many of the teachings. As a Christian, I didn't progress much in a spiritual sense no matter how much I prayed. From that time, I had to search a path that'll not only help me improve myself spiritually but also find more peace and happiness without the entrapments of dogma.

what teachings didn't you agree on?

We're "hogging the Magic Sing mic" all over again. Good.

Some thoughts on your replies...
- I just started taking up Ashtanga Yoga myself. Ow.
- I'm a Roman Catholic, and proud of it. But I do agree with you that many from my side take their religion for granted. As for me, I've had my atheist/agnostic/deist moments back in college, but things have happened to me that have strengthened my belief in Catholicism. But that's just me.

I do agree with you that people should be more involved with their religions, that they should bare a critical eye on it, and question what they do not understand. I also agree with you that many doctrines and practices in Roman Catholicism is questionable, even appaling. But I still remain a Roman Catholic because I believe in its core, its reason for being. Take out all the trappings, and that's all that matters.

My questions:
- Suppose a cataclysm of epic proportions was happening right now, and you only had time to save one item you own, what would you save?
- Same premise, but if you had time to save only one person, who would it be?
- Now suppose this cataclysm has ended, and it was up to you to rebuild the country, what five things would you do first?

- Fried chicken. It has always been fried chicken. :)
- If you mean cooking specialty, my biggest would be (no surprise) fried chicken.
- the Ultimate Lico-style Fried Chicken
- Oh my, there's a lot. If you insist to know, here are just some teachings and stances I just don't agree with.

Salvation through faith alone, the condemnation of homosexuals (I'm not exactly pro-gay but I believe that every homosexual deserves the same rights as every heterosexual), the condemnation of divorce, the condemnation of single parents, the Rapture, Creative Intelligence in school, Creative Intelligence in school, the discrimination against other faiths, the stance against birth control, the stance against live-in relationships etc etc.

But hey, that's just me. I learned to live with it until I've seen the beauty of Buddhism.

psychoCOW

EXACTLY! Christianity would've been better if the Christians avoid the pitfalls of dogma and look at its very essence. It's like what Bruce Lee said.

Don't think, feel!
It is like a finger pointing away to the moon.
Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.

ATAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!!!

- Any book of Buddhist teachings.
- Honestly, I really don't know. However, if I have a girlfriend I would save her first.
- 1) Find any possible survivors other than myself 2) If I find any survivors, I would unite them as a team 3) Find food, shelter and other necessities to survive. If possible, we'll create a small community ala-Gilligan's Island 4) Find any communication devices to contact the outside world. 5) Contact and seek help from any surviving law enforcement units, military units or any unit under the government.

- Other than FPN, there are so many characters I portray as. You've already seen some of them in some of my works. Characters such as:

Great Cartoonist Lico (It's great to be a cartoonist!)
Guardian Lico (the sage of Asmak Komiks)
Giovanni Brassiere (the grandmaster and founder of the Secret Order Of The Breastmasons)
The Fishball Samurai (aka Lone Wolf and Cart)
Don Dilberto Menudo Y Patatas Arriba Arriba (a swashbuckling hero. He's like Antonio Banderas and Danny Devito all rolled into one!)
Gohlactus (Devourer of Foods)

and many more

- Criss Angel. He's weird... just like me!

- the electric shock from his fingers

- Honestly, I have some serious issues with some traditionalists (Gerry Alanguilan is not one of them and I'm not going to name names) but I realized that I'm free to ignore their anti-manganess whenever I want. I find that being thin-skinned, ranting (although it helps me lose some steam) and debating about such things is a waste of my time and energy.

To tell you the truth, I'm not exactly pro-manga either. I used to be but that was just a phase. Nowadays, I just want to assimiliate stuff from other styles (including both eastern and western) into my art. Although it doesn't hurt to improve art, what's important for me is the story content. Frankly, I don't care much about the art as long the story can entertain me. I want stories that can grab my attention as long as it can. I can name a lot of stories with beautiful visuals yet crappy content. Remember the anime Technolyze? Pfft! If I want to have a good night sleep, I'll just watch one episode and I'd be snoozing in a few minutes.

Anyway, about Gerry's article, he posted some very strong points regarding Filipino komik art. Time and again, he has proven the existence of the Filipino komik style. I had trouble countering him so I had no choice but to concede. As for Taga-ilog's article, he also posted very good points. Yet still, I doubt that the many traditionalists out there would accept his views. Despite that, he's said the most important thing. He said that kept me from being possessed by anger and hatred towards Filipino komiks: let's draw comics! If it weren't for those three magic words, I would've quit my quest of fame, fortune and glory in the comic industry. He’s right, let’s stop all this bickering about style and blah-blah.

The next time someone asks me what my style is, I'll say that it's Liconian style.

Maybe this is a case of taking things too seriously. I'm sure all of us started doing what we do (comics, filmmaking, etc) because we fell in love with it. I don't think any of us were even conscious of the styles and techniques we were using. We just did what we did for the heck of it. And I guess, when it comes down to it, that's what really matters.

So maybe the real question here is, What drives you?

-Very well said. My biggest mistake was taking this western vs manga thing too seriously.

You mentioned about "unconscious influence." Come to think of it, I unconsciously absorbed some stuff from Scott Kurtz into my art. I only realized it earlier this week!

- There are two things that drives me: one is my love for comics and two is my desire to entertain people with my own comics. The truth is that I'm more of an entertainer than an artist. ^^;

In Buddhism, there are many denominations/sects just like Christianity. There's Zen, Tibetan, Theravada, Pureland, Nichiren and etc etc. Nichiren Buddhism is a Buddhist denomination based in Japan. The founder was a 13th century Japanese Buddhist monk named Nichiren Daishonin who was one of the most kick-ass clerics during his time. He did not do kung fu but he criticized the corrupt clergy and government of his time... and lived to tell about it. He taught that by entrusting faith in the Lotus Sutra (a famous Buddhist scripture that proclaims the Buddhahood in every sentient being) and chanting the mantra "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo", one can gain good karma, diminish bad karma and attain enlightenment in the present lifetime.
