I was reading Marvel's House of M issue #2 when I came across this panel where Dr. Hank Mc Coy (aka Beast) was Talking to Dr. Henry Pym (Yellow Jacket) about isolating the mutan gene, much like the Human Genome Project. Note on the lower left panel where they discussed "trying to isolate the one thing that black people black or Filipino people..."

question: If you were to complete the dialoque, what would you have placed? help a poor soul get some answers please.

Off topic: Dean Koontz mentioned a Filipino nurse cursing the main character in Tagalog in the novel "Dragon Tears."

On topic: Oo nga, sana may mas malaking pic para maintindihan namin. Although, puwedeng sabihin niyang "trying to isolate the one thing that black people black (sic) or Filipino people more stubborn." XD

sorry, I've reposted it at flickr to enlarge it.

Sorry it's not the mention of "Filipinos" also that I was trying to ask about, Batman would make a lot of mention of filipinos, the Philippines and Imelda Marcos even.

tenkouken got what I was trying to ask. thanks!

bet the artist stopped in the point where he COULD say something good or stupid...

i like his decision to pause..its not good to antagonize a race even if its not his intentions. people can misunderstand...and sometimes do it on purpose.

well, ill agree on tenk if the aim is finishing what he's suppose to say

Siguro mas superior mutants tau? rofl.gif

Mahirap din kasiminsan sa mga ganyan eh, kasi nga as polskie said, pwede ma misinterpret yan ng mga rabid activists kuno na medyo misguided ung fanaticism nila.

There was one episode of Balitanghali that mentioned that in one of their teasers, but come broadcast time, the news item was not aired.

Secret Invasion, Iron Man and GMA
Permalink

I remember seeing the news story on ABS-CBN I think. GMA wasjust one of several politicalfigures na kasama. Haven't seen the actual comics though

In a somewhat related topic, I just want to share the following piece from budjette tan (writer of Trese) sent via the alamat egroups:

--------------------------------------

Iron Man in Manila

And while everyone was busy checking out the
Skrull-supporting- GMA in "Secret Invasion", nobody
noticed that Iron Man made another trip to the Philippines
in THE INVINCIBLE IRON MAN#4.

In the story, Iron Man visited the headquarters of new
Triumph Division. (Their HQ looks like the circular
church in UP. hehehe)

While meeting with the Pinoy superheroes, Iron Man's
mused:

"Interesting thing about super heroes in the
Philippinesthe legacies are familiar and run back
centuries.

"The sons and daughters of these heroes will one day
replace these heroes they train for it their whole
lives.

"Theyre excited, nervous, eager, and full of energy.

"If theyre scared, they cover it with bravado, pride
, and hope. Reminds me of the early days of the
Avengers.

"The Philippines is in great hands.

"Long live The Triumph Division."

Nice touch about Pinoy heroes being family-based, much
like the people/families/ clans in Pinoy politics and
showbiz. :) heh

Could you please give us a link to a scan or at least the date and issue of the comic?

The Triumph Division deserves a spin-off graphic novel or mini-series best written and drawn by RP artists for marvel.

Crossover with Batch 72, perhaps?

===========================================================

Back to main topic, the what makes Filipinos very resilient is not isolated to one particular gene - blame it more on historical and cultural context.

I'm sure that's what dr McCoy was trying to say

Mutants and Filipinos: Clarifications

@Tora: I'm sorry I couldn't find a link nor could I find the actual comic book, but I think it's The Invincible Iron Man Vol. 5 Issue # 4 by written by Matt Fraction, art by Salvador Larroca and had a US release dated August 6, 2008.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back on the topic, it's been such a long time since I started this post kasi naguluhan din lang kasi ako the firt time I read it (the comic) reading it again, I realized tama ang mga inputs nina tenkouken, polskie and tora. At ngayon ko rin lang na realize na magulo pala talaga ang umpisa ng thread na ito, pasensya na po, baguhan pa lang kasi sa forums nung I post ko ito.

To rectify things somewhat, here's a backgrounder and restatement of the original post inquiry.

Dr. Henry Pym (Yellow Jacket) was working on trying to isolate the mutant gene (remember, House of M stooryline ito, so ang minority group e ang mga homo sapiens). Dr. Hank Mc Coy (Beast) tries to reason with him and the following conversation ensues

Hank Mc Coy: It's reverse racism, Henry. It's very insulting. It's like trying to isolate the one thing that makes black people black, or Filipino people..

Henry Pym: You don't understand my point. What I want to do is..

Hank Mc Coy: It's not one thing, it's not one DNA strand.. it's millions of them wrapped around a..

Henry Pym: stop talking down to me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And just when we started to accept that people canbe different (culture, race, color, political ideation) ngayon ang issue naman ay kung taga earth ka ba o hinde...
